Mercatus alumna and senior scholar as well as Elbert H. Neese Professor of Economics at Beloit College Dr. Emily Chamlee-Wright has recently published The Cultural and Political Economy of Recovery: Social Learning in a Post-Disaster Environment(Routledge, 2010).
The Cultural and Political Economy of Recovery looks at the nature of social order and coordination in post-disaster contexts. Relying on hundreds of interviews conducted with New Orleaneans affected by Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Chamlee-Wright argues that the level of social coordination and social order that arises in society is much too complex for us to design and that discovery by commercial and social entrepreneurs within communities is what drives post-disaster resilience.
