MA Fellowship Program Requirements
As a Mercatus Center MA Fellow you…
Are required to:
- maintain a 3.5 GPA
- complete a significant solo-authored research project (Mercatus Policy Essay)
- enroll in 9 credits each semester
- actively participate in the monthly Theory to Practice Readings Group
- actively participate in the Workshop in Career Development and Job Placement
- spend approximately 20 hours each week working with Mercatus Center staff and faculty mentors throughout the year
- spend the summer following your second semester working with a faculty mentor and beginning your Mercatus Policy Essay
- take the core MA economics sequence of “Microeconomic Theory I” (ECON 611), “Microeconomic Theory II” (ECON 612), “Macroeconomic Theory” (ECON 615), “Mathematical Economics I” (ECON 630, MA section), and “Survey of Applied Econometrics” (ECON 535)
- take “Regulation and the Market Process” (ECON 695) or “Entrepreneurship and Public Policy” (ECON 695) during your first semester
- take “Quantitative and Qualitative Methods in Economic Analysis” (ECON 695) during your third semester
- select your elective courses from within the Department of Economics
- ensure that the Director of Graduate Student Programs always has a copy of your current bio and CV
Are expected to:
- attend Mercatus Center brown bags and occasional lectures
Are encouraged to:
- build relationships with Mercatus Center scholars and members of our faculty network
- actively follow developments in public policy and business management and pursue research projects related to challenges in public policy and business
