Dissertation Fellowships

The Mercatus Dissertation Fellowship Program is a one year, renewable, competitive fellowship program for students who have advanced to candidacy in their PhD program at George Mason University and are working on dissertations that aim at understanding how social change occurs and how to create a freer society.

In order to apply to the Dissertation Fellowship, please click the “Apply Now” button and complete the online application. The online application includes:

  • Cover letter
    • Explaining your interest in the program,
    • Listing the members of your dissertation committee, and
    • Listing your expected dissertation proposal defense date.
  • A current resume/CV
  • A 2-page description of your planned dissertation
  • A 10-page writing sample
  • A few short answer questions 
Deadline: February 1, 2016 (Applications closed for the 2016-2017 academic year.)
