S. Ramachandran

  • Main Country Economist for Egypt, World Bank

Dr. Ramachandran has been with the World Bank since 1988 and has worked in a variety of countries and regions, including Mexico, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.  During the East Asian economic crisis of 1997, he worked on an auction based system that would protect taxpayer interests while resolving the debts of firms and nations affected by the crisis and has worked in the World Bank’s Operations Evaluation Department.  Dr. Ramachandran was part of the core group of researchers who published Economic Growth in the 1990s: Learning from a Decade of Reform and contributed chapters dealing with regulation, privatization finance, and other topics.  He recently completed Development Policy Review report on Egypt.

Dr. Ramachandran holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangalore University, and M.B.A. from the University of Delhi, an M.S. in Economics from the London School of Economics, and an M.B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago.
